A Wonderful "Rainy Season" Safari
Zambia & Botswana
Mar 26 2015 Written by: Pedro O'Connor
After our first day the wilds of Africa we were content; everything after this was a bonus. Viewing the Victoria Falls at ground level is nothing short of breathtaking. However when one takes to the skies in a helicopter that culminates with a low level, high adrenalin rush, slingshot flight through the lower chasms of the Zambezi one truly finds their heart in their mouth with both fists pumping from excitement. After coming down we revelled in the opportunity to walk in close quarters with the Mosi oa Tunya rhino anti-poaching squad which allows privileged access to these endangered giants; ... [Read More]

A Solo Safari Through Southern Africa
Epic client Liz is just back from her first trip to Africa. Liz's solo safari included horseback riding through the Okavango Delta in Botswana, white water rafting down the Zambezi and a heli flight over Victoria Falls. Thank you Liz for sharing your fantastic journey! I have recently returned home to Australia from the most incredible and extraordinary adventure in Africa. Words are barely sufficient to describe the emotions that I feel about the amazing experience I have been lucky enough to enjoy. Lots of initial researching and internet googling started me on my quest, but it wasn’t until I hand-balled it ...
A Return to the Zambezi
My first job in the safari industry was building and managing a small safari camp in Zambia's Lower Zambezi National Park. It was 1996 and I was a very green 22 year old who had just finished university and really didn't know very much about anything at all! I lasted 6 months before the daily challenges of living and working in such an isolated and remote place eventually became too much. The job required someone more experienced and I needed to somewhere that I could be trained and mentored. In May this year, I returned to the Lower Zambezi for the ...
All Creatures Great and Small
Zambia may not be top of most safari-goers list of destinations but the country offers an impressive list of possible adventures, activities and special places that should be considered when considering any trip to Africa. Victoria Falls and the Lower Zambezi (both shared with Zimbabwe) and a wide range of beautiful and remote wildlife areas which arguably may be the home of the original walking safaris. I recently had the pleasure of spending time in Zambia where my clients were able to experience a range of activities from our first base at Livingstone close to the Victoria Falls, then South Luangwa ...
Leopards and Hyena Battle It Out
I have just returned from a safari to Zambia with a wonderful family from the US. This is their fifth trip with Epic and fourth safari with us to Africa. We centred this trip on Zambia's two iconic national parks; the Lower Zambezi and the South Luangwa National Parks. This made for wonderful variety and with great diversity of habitats, game and experiences. . One of the focuses of this trip was walking and we enjoyed some monumental days. Paralleling the Luangwa River over a couple of days was very memorable. Lots and lots of hippos. On one occasion we came ...
Zambezi Trek and Paddle - Sept 2011
I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you some footage of a "trek and paddle" safari I guided last month. This trip involved a couple of nights acclimatising in Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe before flying into Mana Pools National Park in the Zambezi Valley. We proceeded to walk across Mana over three and a bit days covering a total of around eighty kilometres. We then had a two night "spell" and the beautiful Ruckomechi Camp before paddling back down the river over two days to the start point. There are few safaris that come close to this ...
New Botswana and Zambia Video
Here is a short video taken in Botswana and Zambia, while guiding clients there recently. It was an incredible safari with some amazing game interaction. You will see that we enjoyed many close up encounters including witnessing a cheetah kill, a couple of wonderful sightings of the highly endangered wild dog, leopard on a kill, and numerous fantastic experiences with elephants.
