Red dirt roads, sheep and cattle farms, spectacular coastline, white sandy beaches, eucalyptus trees stretching off to the horizon, amazing wildlife encounters and the freshest local produce – Kangaroo Island has it all and it’s no wonder this is an Epic favourite.
Islands are special places wherever you are in the world – isolation, solitude, and contact with the ocean. “KI” was part of mainland Australia only during times of low sea level caused by global glaciation. Many of the native plants and animals are clearly different from their relatives on the nearby mainland; the KI kangaroo is a distinct sub-species of the Western Grey kangaroo, the endangered Glossy-Black Cockatoo is also an Island sub-species and the Sooty Dunnart (a small marsupial carnivore) is found nowhere else on earth. Similarly the plants have evolved in isolation to the point where there are over 45 endemic species.
Don’t miss the island’s amazing natural wonders of Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch.
