Mount Whitney

The Mt Whitney climb is a challenging undertaking but a rewarding experience with a group of like-minded individuals. Mt Whitney is the highest peak in the contiguous United States towering 14,505 ft above sea level. Our route offers true acclimating by climbing high and sleeping low to adjust to the altitude. This climb requires physical training and included in your climb is a detailed training program to help you prepare for your journey through the Sierra Nevadas.

  • Mt Whitney

    Mount Whitney is the highest mountain in the contiguous United States or the lower 48 states. The only American mountains higher than Whitney are in Alaska, which has seven higher peaks including Denali. Mount Whitney is the second highest ultra-prominent peak in the lower 48 U.S. states with 10,071 feet of prominence and the 81st most prominent peak in the world.

    na-mt-whitneyMount Whitney ironically lies only 76 miles from Badwater, the lowest point in North America at 282 feet (86 metres) below sea level in Death Valley National Park.  Mount Whitney has a huge vertical rise, towering 10,778 feet (3,285 metres) above the town of Lone Pine in the Owens Valley to the east. Whitney was first climbed on August 18, 1873, by three Lone Pine locals; Charley Begole, Johnny Lucas, and Al Johnson.

    Day 1: Lone Pine, California

    Upon arrival into Lone Pine, you are met and transferred by private vehicle to your hotel.

    You are welcomed by your private guide and partake in a climb brief with your team before dinner.

    Day 2: Lone Pine / Cottonwood Pass / Rock Creek

    You are transferred to the tail head, load your equipment on the mules, and begin your long hike to Rock Creek and your first camp.

    Today you will hike approximately 13 miles over Cottonwood Pass and connect with the Pacific Crest Trail.

  • Sample Itinerary

    Day 3: Rock Creek / Guyot Pass / Guitar Lake

    Today starts with a steep uphill climb over Guyot Pass and then back down through Crabtree Meadows. The group ends the day at Guitar Lake.  You are given ample time to prepare for your summit bid.

    Today you have 9 miles to camp finishing at 11,400 ft.

    Day 4: Summit Day

    With an early departure you will make your approach to the summit and be on the top by 11am.

    You will have lunch on the summit and head down and back to camp by early afternoon.

    Day 5: Rock Creek

    Retracing your steps you will head back to Rock Creek with plenty of time to relax and enjoy the lower elevation.

    Day 6: Rock Creek / Cottonwood Pass / Lone Pine

    Your final day on the trail finds you hiking back over Cottonwood Pass and descending down into Horseshoe Meadows.

    You return to the hotel for a hot shower and a well-deserved dinner in town.

    Day 7: Lone Pine

    Today you bid farewell to your team and are transferred to your final destination to connect you with your private arrangements.
