In February this year, Rob had the pleasure of accompanying a small group with an interest in primates, to trek mountain gorillas in Uganda (in East Africa) over 4 days.
Gorilla trekking would have to be on most people’s nature tourism bucket lists since there are only just under 1000 left on earth.
This trip was no exception with wonderful sightings of the magnificent mountain gorillas of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and some beautiful trekking through the villages that share the beautiful countryside with their rare hominid cousins.
The visit was complimented with wonderful visits into the communities to spend time with the local people - in their homes, work groups and to sing and dance with them. Often people come on a wilderness safari with the expectation of a magnificent wildlife experience - only for this to be surpassed by memorable interactions with local people. This really was a highlight of the trip and one that will stay with us for a lifetime.
