Epic Everest Update #7

Rest day in Dingboche, 22 April

22 April: Today was a rest day at Dingboche. This is somewhat a misnomer however. During rest days we don’t stay stationary. Rather, we try and climb high for a couple of hours and then come back to sleep lower. In the morning after breakfast we climbed a small peak, Nangazung, to the back of the Teahouse where we are staying. Nangazung stands at 5000 metres. In the wider world at 5000 metres this is quite a peak however in the Himalayas it is baby. Probably better descrgroibed as a “hill”.  The climb offered some incredible views to Ama Dablam and Makalu in the distance to the north. Makalu is the fifth highest mountain in the world.

Tomorrow we are off to Lobuche. We have two more nights on the trail (after this one) before we get to base camp.
