Lord Howe Island

Rising from the Tasman Sea just 700km northeast of Sydney on the East Coast of Australia, this tiny, breathtakingly beautiful island is just 11km long and 2.8km at widest. Around 300 people are lucky enough to call the island home and visitor numbers are restricted to 400 at any one time to preserve Lord Howe Island’s precious natural environment. The island has over 130 species of bird with two thirds of the island covered in forests, Banyan trees and Kentia palms.

Diving, snorkelling and fishing are the natural draw card for the island. Lord Howe Island is considered to be an outstanding example of an island ecosystem developed from submarine volcanic activity, having a rare diversity of landscapes, flora and fauna (both marine and terrestrial).  Island transport is by bicycle, while hiking and golf also prove popular land based activities.
