Papua New Guinea is a refreshing destination for its purity of nature and people and is quite possibly the last trammelled destination on our planet.

For those looking to journey through this country of amazing natural beauty and ‘cruise PNG’, luxury vessel The True North allows discerning adventurers to experience PNG’s wilderness in surroundings more akin to one of the world’s most exclusive hotels. Multiple expedition boats provide guests with greater opportunity to do “what they want, when they want” and, to add yet another dimension to adventure, the ship features an onboard helicopter. PNG Expedition Cruising
Day 1
Cairns, Australia / Alotau, Papua New Guinea / Milne Bay

Meet your fellow passengers and take a chartered flight from Cairns to Alotau (just 90 minutes) where a traditional islander welcome awaits. Transfer to your luxury floating home for the next seven nights. Cruise the province of Milne Bay featuring more than 600 islands. Take in the unique views of the many fishing villages, or enjoy a relaxing snorkel amongst the area’s prolific corals before returning onboard to feast on the day’s catch prepared by your chefs.

Day 2
Ferguson Island

This morning discover jungle that shelters countless varieties of birds including colourful parrots, hornbills, wild fowl and the famed bird of paradise. The fishermen will do battle with hard fighting table fish such as mackerel, yellow fin tuna and mahi mahi. Discover endless irresistible beaches while beautiful coral gardens await the snorkellers and divers. An excursion to the hot springs will top off an amazing day.

Day 3
Tufi Fjords

Start the day with a refreshing snorkel, catch your breakfast or just stroll along a pristine beach fringed with coconut palms. Then fill your day with swimming, island walks and village life as you cruise the beautiful fjords of Tufi. Tufi is renowned for SCUBA diving and plenty of opportunities are provided for you to enjoy the underwater world.

Day 4
Lusancay Islands

This morning anchor in the middle of the Solomon Sea amongst the corals of Star Reef and the strikingly beautiful Lusancay Islands. Take a stroll around your very own deserted island (the Lusancays are uninhabited), snorkel in the shallows or drop off the outer-reef for a spectacular dive. The fishing is second to none – battle with tuna, mackerel or even a sailfish.

Day 5
Jacqinot Bay, New Britain

Your vessel’s shallow draft provides unique access to this area. Join the comfortable expedition boats and explore deeper into the jungle visiting isolated villages that have little contact with the outside world. Visit the grotto where fresh water pounds out of a rock face onto a pristine beach. No matter what your desire, the coast of New Britain promises unrivalled adventure.

Day 6
Duke of York Islands / Rabaul

Snorkelling expeditions will re-discover Japanese tanks in shallow island waters and a helicopter flight can provide stunning island views that have been the privilege of few before. Visit Rabaul – once described as the most beautiful town in the South Pacific – perched on the edge of a magnificent natural harbour and surrounded by active volcanoes. The volcano still belches smoke throughout the day.

Day 7

This morning you witness a Sing Sing – a traditional gathering of tribes, where villagers paint and decorate themselves to display and share their distinct cultures, dance and music. The numerous islands of Kavieng offer an array of impressive diving and snorkelling opportunities for every level. Here we find ships, planes and even submarines in shallow water. This region also offers great fishing.

Day 8
Kavieng / Cairns, Australia

Early morning disembarkation and charter flight back to Cairns.
