South Africa

Perhaps one of the best known ‘ jewels’ of the African continent, South Africa offers a plethora of experiences.

Safaris are obviously front and centre with the Kruger/Sabi Sands/Timbivati/Manyaleti areas being the most sought after.  Safaris to South Africa are sometimes undertaken as part of a wider safari throughout the region for example, to Botswana.  On other occasions we have designed multi-destination safaris within South Africa itself.  It all depends upon the time of year and your expectations and possibly previous experiences.

The inclusion of Cape Town, set against the backdrop of Table Mountain and its environs, is a must for any visit to South Africa.  In our experience, an absolute minimum of 3 nights is needed. Ideally you should allow 5 nights and you may even consider dividing your stay between Cape Town itself and the winelands, with the towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek nestled amongst rolling vineyards and picturesque mountains.  The distinctive Cape Dutch architecture, oak-shaded streets lined with cafes, boutiques and art galleries, make them a popular destination with locals and tourists alike.

The Singita lodges in South Africa are undoubtedly among the very best on the continent. If you have a penchant for luxury and/or limited time on safari then a stay at Singita is the best option.

The game-viewing is superb with all the big game in attendance.

These lodges make for a great combination with Cape Town or partaking in a longer safari into the interior of the region such as Botswana or Zambia.

Known as ‘the Mother City’, Cape Town is snuggled between the steep sandstone cliffs of Table Mountain and the blue Atlantic coastline. Here you will learn about the hardship of slavery, colonial life in The Cape and the tragedy of apartheid.

The unrivalled natural beauty, plant diversity and abundant marine life make for a great array of activities. And with the Cape Winelands on its door step, The Cape is considered the culinary and wine capital of the subcontinent.
