Quality experiences and diverse habitats

The quality of experience and diversity of habitats makes Zimbabwe very special. The game-viewing in the dry months is the equal of other more storied African destinations. Combine that game-viewing  experience with outstanding adventure pursuits and price and Zimbabwe is hard to beat for value.

The Victoria Falls presents a magnificent spectacle of nature’s power with the Zambezi River forming the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. It was described by the Kololo tribe living in the area in the 1800’s as Mosi-oa-Tunya or in translation, the Smoke that Thunders.

Victoria Falls is known as the greatest curtain of falling water in the world. Straddling both Zimbabwe and Zambia at a width of nearly two kilometres, into a gorge over one hundred metres below. The Falls are best viewed after the rainy season at their peak around April and May. Victoria Falls the town, is also the adrenalin capital of southern Africa with a long list of activities available, from bungy jumping to white water rafting on the Lower Zambezi.

Apart from the Falls, we think the other two essentials on a safari to Zimbabwe are Hwange and Mana Pools National Parks. To take in both Hwange and Mana you would need to allow a minimum of 8 nights.

Game rich Hwange National Park is a short flight away from the Falls and is the largest park in Zimbabwe, massive, at over 14,000 sqkm.  The variety of habitats means game-viewing is productive year-round. Mana Pools is one of the icons of the safari world. Located on the mighty Zambezi River below Kariba Dam, Mana is recognised as one of Africa’s most extraordinary parks. When you mention Mana to any experienced safari guide they will immediately attest to its legendary status and speak of it in revered tones. It is an incredible place to walk and canoe and is undoubtedly one of the best choices in Africa for an active safari. (See itinerary below.)

Zimbabwe has faced some big challenges in recent times however we are pleased to say that stability has returned to the country and safaris are in full swing. We think it’s important to keep in mind that you’re helping local people when you go on safari. We’ve conducted many amazing safaris in Zimbabwe in recent years, with our clients reporting back having had only the best experiences.
Including this one. 2009 and some high drama in the Zambezi river !

9 days Classic Zimbabwe

This wonderful old style safari combines the best game-viewing areas in Zimbabwe as well as the iconic Victoria Falls, one of the seven wonders of the natural world. Lovely, comfortable camps and famous Zim hospitality. Zimbabwe presents great value for money and an amazing game experience. Mana Pools National Park, on the lower Zambezi River is legendary for walking and canoeing. One of our favourite places for all of us at Epic. This safari can also be combined with Cape Town.

Zimbabwe
3 Nights trip

3 Nights Cape Town Extension

Cape Town offers a diverse array of activities and touring. It also has a wealth of accommodation options. Here we include our favourite property – Ellerman House. However also in our top 3 are The Silo and the Cape Grace. Please note costs will vary for these options.

South Africa add on

10 nights Active Zimbabwe

Classic Zimbabwe camps in line with our other wonderful Zim safari, with 3 memorable days of walking in the bush thrown in, staying in mobile camps. You can and will still walk at Mana Pools and also enjoy finishing on the Zambezi at Victoria Falls, but the walking from Daka Plains camp in Hwange National Park, is something very special indeed, elevating this safari into its own world of adventure..
