Peru is a wonderfully colourful and diverse country in the heart of South America.

It’s famous for being home to the sacred archaeological site of Machu Picchu. Visitors travel from across the globe to view this magnificent ancient Incan city set high in the Andes Mountains and explore the age-old ruins.

Nearby you will discover the Sacred Valley and the vibrant city of Cusco, referred to by the Incas as ‘the centre of the world’.

Using Cusco as a base – and if you are keen for some walking – set off on a journey along the Salkantay Pass, which joins on to the end of the renowned Inca Trail before arriving at Machu Picchu.  Discover amazing Inca sites as well as hiking, rafting and mountain-biking adventures.

Not to be missed are the exotic reaches of Peru’s Amazon Rainforest and Amazon River – best explored onboard a luxury river cruise.  Look out for pink dolphins, a multitude of monkeys, sloths and remote village communities along the way. For something different try piranha fishing!

Add on a stay at the glittering, mountain-ringed waters of Lake Titicaca, or explore the capital city of Lima with its superb restuarants, exquisite architecture and effervescent nightlife.

14 Nights active Salkantay Trek & Machu Picchu

This is the ultimate active Peru itinerary. The Salkantay is a luxury lodge to lodge trek that follows the road less travelled to Machu Picchu. It is much less trammelled than the Inca Trail. You start the adventure in the Sacred Valley and Cusco before commencing the trek. You will be accommodated along the trail in small 6 roomed lodges complete with all the modern conveniences. The trip culminates with a visit to the fabled Inca city of Machu Picchu before returning to Cusco. Annie and Brad highly recommend this adventure For the truly adventurous and willing, this can also be combined with a visit to the Amazon and some other destinations in Peru, time permitting.
