Unique safaris in every way
Namibia is famed for its remote and intimate luxury lodges located in starkly beautiful places filled with extraordinary desert-adapted wildlife. For a place which at first glance may seem lifeless, the reality is astonishing: there are approximately 4,000 species of plants, 650 bird species and 80 large mammal species. We are unabashed fans of Namibia at Epic.
Namibia is large and sparsely populated, which makes light air transfers the best way to explore its far-flung parks. The very definition of big sky country.
Sossusvlei, means ‘the gathering place of water’ in the local Nama language. In good years the seasonal rains which fall in the foothills of the Naukluft and Tsaris Mountains reach the vleis, creating temporary lakes which mirror the sand dunes surrounding them. Sossusvlei’s huge red dunes and flat valley floors make up the archetypical view of the Namib which is world famous.
Damaraland is one of the most scenic areas in Namibia – a huge, untamed, ruggedly beautiful region. Here, prehistoric water courses with open plains and grassland mix with massive granite koppies and deep gorges.
Towards the west, the geography changes dramatically with endless sandy wastes which are able to sustain small, but wide-ranging populations of desert-adapted elephant, black rhino, giraffe, ostrich and springbok.
The Skeleton Coast is a spectacularly remote and unique safari destination.
The original inhabitants, the San people, refer to it as “The Land God made in Anger”. The park covers 16,000 sqkm and occupies much of Namibia’s northern coastline.
The Skeleton Coast is normally associated with shipwrecks which litter the shoreline, however, the area derives its name from the scattering of bones from old whaling and sealing expeditions. The Atlantic ocean, cold and wild, has claimed dozens of ships over the centuries.
A country of startling contrasts, Namibia boasts arid deserts, stunning seascapes and endless horizons. The many national parks and game reserves are home to a kaleidoscope of diverse wildlife and environments. Namibia is an amazing destination offering some of the most breathtaking landscapes on the planet. It might not be on your radar compared to the better known safari destinations, but it should be.

Namibia is a paradise for photographers. Unlike any other offering in Africa, the landscape changes dramatically every 50 or 100 km. The towering windswept dunes of Sossuvlei, the remoteness of the north with the Kunene and Skeleton Coast, never cease to leave our guests in awe. Shipwreck Lodge (in photograph) has to be seen to be believed, a multi award winning design. This safari puts you in the best places in the finest camps. We can't recommend Namibia more highly. A favourite Epic destination.
Cape Town offers a diverse array of activities and touring.
It also has a wealth of accommodation options. Here we include our favourite property – Ellerman House.
However also in our top 3 are The Silo and Cape Grace. Please note costs will vary for these options.
