Treks and Climbs

Adventure has always been central to the Epic ethos. We encourage our clients to push their physical and mental limits. Of course what those limits are is very much an individual thing.

Some yearn to challenge themselves. What better way to explore your boundaries than by partaking in one of Epicโ€™s treks or climbs. Most definitely some thought needs to go into this idea, preparation is the key, especially if it’s a climb, some fitness goals have to be met. But the rewards are enormous and the feedback we receive from people undertaking these challenges is always inspiring. Epic clients have walked from the Okavango Delta to the Linyanti Delta, walked and canoed in the Lower Zambezi at Mana Pools, climbed Kili of course, ridden horses and cycled in Patagonia. Trekked after gorillas in Rwanda and Uganda, done walking safaris in South Luangwa. Quite recently Brad and Annie joined a group of friends in South Africa and walked the extraordinary Pondo Trail on the Transkei Coast. There is so much out there to experience on foot.

On occasion these are offered as small group journeys or customised to suit. They are ideal for an active family or a group of like minded friends. These journeys are accompanied by our finest guides and a superlative support crew. Potential risks are constantly assessed and managed to ensure a safe and enjoyable expedition. An example of what we’re talking about below.

13 Days trip

13 Days Everest Base Camp

A trek to Everest Base Camp is undoubtedly one of the great treks of the world. The Himalaya houses 50 peaks of 7000 metres or above and the Khumbu Valley, which leads up to Everest, is smack bang in the centre of it all. The scenery is absolutely amazing. The trek is 9 nights and 10 days in total with nights pre and post in Kathmandu. We are accommodated in quaint, comfortable tea houses throughout. Our itinerary however differs to the mainstream in that we culminate the trek camping a night at Base Camp itself. We then helicopter back to Kathmandu thereby avoiding a 3 day walk out.

11 Nights Trekking for Snow Leopards

The Trans-Himalayan region of Ladakh is one of the last frontiers for wildlife tourism. A winter trip meets the elements head-on in a stunning and apparently bleak landscape. But within these high valleys created by folds of the Great Himalaya is perhaps the highest density of the most elusive of the great cats โ€“ the snow leopard. The very name evokes all that is most wild, mysterious and elusive in nature โ€“ for this is an animal that comes cloaked not just in the subtle beauty of its own coat but also in all the high drama of the harsh and magnificent environment that it dominates. The Ladakh region is a high altitude cold desert and for the snow leopard to survive it has a prey base of bharal (blue sheep), ibex and marmots. Wolves, foxes and wild dogs are other predators in the same area. Photo Credit Surya Ramachandran

14 Nights Adventure Salkantay Trek & Machu Picchu

This is the ultimate active Peru itinerary. The Salkantay is a luxury lodge to lodge trek that follows the road less travelled to Machu Picchu. It is much less trammelled than the Inca Trail. You start the adventure in the Sacred Valley and Cusco before commencing the trek. You will be accommodated along the trail in small 6 roomed lodges complete with all the modern conveniences. The trip culminates with a visit to the fabled Inca city of Machu Picchu. The clients we have had all love this trip. This can also be combined with a visit to the Amazon and some other destinations in Peru, time permitting.
