Epic Everest Update set to go
written by: Brad Horn4 Apr 2018
Brad and his Epic clients begin their trek to Everest Base Camp.
So here we are, all set to start the trek to Everest Base Camp. Everyone is in good spirits and ready for the adventure ahead.
The trek to Everest Base Camp will take us 9 nights and culminates in a night at Base Camp itself where we will have our own private camp setup. It is a glorious walk with a very good acclimatisation profile. The trek takes us up the Khumbu Valley with an elevation gain of around 400-600 metres a day.
We will be accommodated throughout in tea houses. From Base Camp Steve and Paul will helicopter back to Kathmandu and Sean, Guy and I will continue onto climb Lobuche (6119 metres).
I will then proceed back to Base camp to join the Adventure Consultants team for the remainder of the Everest expedition.
Yesterday was spent in Kathmandu getting our gear together and doing some last minute admin.
Kathmandu is as chaotic as ever but I always enjoy heading into Thamel, the touristy part of Kathmandu. There is a great coffee shop there, Java Coffee and a plethora of adventure outfitting shops. I can never get enough of looking at adventure gear!
A couple of the guys, Steve and Paul did a tour of Kathmandu in the morning. The highlights includedย the Monkey Temple otherwise known as Swayambhunath Temple; the public cremation grounds along the Bagmati River; and the Boudhanath Temple โ the most sacred pilgrimage site for those who practice Tibetan Buddhism.
Guy and Sean hired some climbing gear for the extension to climb Lobuche after Steve and Paul depart Everest Base Camp.
Today we fly to Lukla and trek through to Monjo.
More to come.
Cheers,
Brad
