The altitude gain from Dingboche to Lobuche is 500 metres and the distance covered a tad over 5 kilometres. We arrived at our tea house at Lobuche in time for lunch. Everyone is in fine spirits and doing well.
The weather has been kind again today with reasonable amounts of sunshine although an icy southerly breeze is ever present.
A sobering moment of this part of the trek is climbing through the Thokla Pass and visiting the tombstones erected at the top of the climb to the numerous climbers who have come to grief on Everest. Prominent amongst them is Scott Fisher who tragically passed away in that ill-fated 1996 climbing season. It was this fateful Everest expedition which the book “Into Thin Air” was an account of and on which subsequently the movie, “Everest” was based.
Tomorrow we continue on to Gorak Shep to position ourselves for the climb of Kala Patthar (5643m) the following morning.
