We have now arrived at Dingboche at an altitude of around 4410 metres. All is going well.
There was no phone connection yesterday so I have combined the two days into the one post.
Yesterday we left Namche for Deboche. This is a beautiful day’s walk. The early stages afford great views of Everest and Lhotse (4th highest mountain in the world). We contoured the ridge line for an hour or so before dropping down into a Valley for lunch.
We then climbed up to Tengboche Monastery. Built in the 17th Century it is one of the most famous Buddhist Monastery’s in Nepal because of its unrivalled backdrop of Mount Ama Dablam.
From there we dropped down a small amount to Deboche for an overnight.
Day 6 – We woke this morning to a light dusting of snow. We proceeded up a valley before climbing to Pangboche where we had tea. Here we met the father and uncle of one of our guides, Djangbu. Between them they have 20 summits of Everest among a multitude of other 8000 metre peaks. Djangbu’s uncle, Llakpha, will be guiding us up Lobuche East (6119 metres). He has summitted Everest 11 times and Ama Dablam 25 times so we are in good hands!
The walk onto Dingboche is a very pretty walk under the shadow of Lhotse. Lots of yak trains on the trail moving goods to and from higher locations.
This afternoon we will embark on a short acclimatisation walk upping our elevation by a couple of hundred metres.
The weather is sunny and windy at the moment but looks like some cloud might be coming in.
More tomorrow.
