Cape Town

Perched on the south west tip of the African continent, Cape Town has a climate very similar to some of the wine growing regions of the Mediterranean. Dry summers, short wet winters, coastal mountain ranges that influence the changeable conditions on a daily basis. Combine this with the confluence of 2 great oceans, the Atlantic and the Indian Oceans and you have a mix for a unique city, the Mother City, as many South Africans know it. This is before you layer in thousands of years of indigenous culture, the much later arrivals from Europe and Asia, no wonder the Cape has become a cultural melting pot of diverse influences in food, language. It’s also – in the modern day – become a magnet for adventure. Hiking, mountain bike riding, even brutal ocean swims in those chilly waters. All of this against the stunning backdrop of the famous ‘Fynbos’ or fine bush, at the heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom. Increasingly, Epic guests doing safaris in the Southern hemisphere, will combine time in the bush in Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and of course South Africa, with a few days in Cape Town and the Winelands, revolving around the stunning towns of Stellenbosch, Paarl, Franschhoek.
